Junonia coenia

Common name: Common buckeye

Appearance:

  • Upperside is brown with two celled orange bars on forewing and two eyespots per forewing and hindwing
  • Underside is tan with sparse black spots
  • 1-3 inch wingspan

Found: In open sunny areas with low vegetation and some bare ground

Major foodplant: Gerardias, toadflax, and plantain

Adults are active in: April - October
